Hundreds of rollercoaster fans across the UK will be extraordinarily excited about opening their presents this Christmas, after the Alton Towers Resort announced they will be auctioning a ride car from the recently closed Corkscrew rollercoaster on eBay.

Following hundreds of enquiries about buying parts of the 28 year-old coaster, the popular family Resort has decided to offer the ultimate item of memorabilia just in time for Christmas – the chance to buy the front carriage of the Corkscrew.

The carriage, which comes along with four seats and four harnesses, will be auctioned on eBay from Tuesday 2nd December at 10am, with all proceeds going to the Merlin’s Magic Wand, the world-wide charity for children created by the Merlin Entertainments Group.

Morwenna Angove, Sales and Marketing Director for the Alton Towers Resort, said:

“Following a surge of enquiries about the Corkscrew’s future and the availability of parts, we have decided to offer the public a truly unique opportunity to own this special piece of memorabilia. We have been astonished by the level of interest in the ride since announcing its’ departure and are confident that this exclusive offer will make someone very happy this Christmas! All proceeds of the auction will be going directly to Merlin’s Magic Wand, a charity set up by our group, to provide magical experiences and other support for children who are seriously ill, disabled or disadvantaged, so bidders can be confident their donation will be utilised in the best possible way”.

eBay announced that while they are used to unusual items being sold, this will be the first time part of a rollercoaster will be available for sale. A spokesperson said:

“We see a number of unique items for sale on the site but this truly is a one off piece for any rollercoaster fans.”
